Ceramics: Waste Moulds

I wanted to make my collection of ceramic forms hollow and decided to create waste moulds of a selected few, i placed my forms half way into a block of clay, i used the clay to also build up a wall around it as shown below, i then added a small piece of clay directly at the top of my form to help block the are and leave a gap for plaster to be poured into later on.

Using the same method i clayed up two of my coral inspired samples shown in the photo above.

First half of waste moulds.

I poured 1.5lbs of plaster and half a pint of water into a tub and mixed them together using the figure of eight, once the mixture was at the right consistency i began to pour it over my pieces as shown in the photograph, once the plaster had set the first half of my waste moulds had been completed.
