Textiles: Cotextual Research
Within my art history lectures i noticed that a textiles print designer named Celina Birtwell had been repeatedly mentioned, i later looked up her print work and found them to be very inspiring. I discovered that Celia worked with her designer husband through the 1960's creating the prints for each garment, i love how each print Celia had created was a random design of the top of her head making each one unique. A lot of Celia's designs are very bold, romantic and feminine making them quite distinctive. I noticed that my way of designing a print and then applying it to a piece of clothing is the complete opposite of Celia's process of designing as she draws her prints and ideas straight onto sketches of clothing and garments before creating the actual prints themselves.
