Textiles: Experimenting

Sample.
When looking at my electric neon mood board i realised i had not yet explored the idea of city lights and neon signs seen in large lit areas like Las Vegas and New York City. Using a hard bristle brush i painted straight lines across my fabric using red and purple direct dyes creating an in motion effect, i wanted these lines to represent the city lights as they would be captured in a moving photograph. I created a number of rectangular shaped paper stencils in a range of sizes, i placed them in a random order across my fabric over lapping them slightly almost like building blocks, i laid a silk screen over the top of my fabric and stencils before mixing a small amount of yellow and green poly print dyes creating an luminous lime green tint, i used a squeegee to apply the dye over my screen creating the print pictured above. I feel that this particular print is a good representation of electric neon and i could see this print being featured in my final collection, however i might edit and tweak some parts using photoshop etc.
